Keeping our children healthy

Childhood Obesity

Childhood obesity is now one of the biggest health issues of the twenty-first century, with London seeing more overweight and obese children than any other major global city and inner-city boroughs. Childhood obesity has significant consequences for children’s physical and mental health and well-being.

Obesity in children is associated with a number of physical health conditions including asthma and other respiratory problems, early puberty, some cancers and skin infections and obese children are twice as likely to develop type-2 diabetes.

In addition, childhood & obesity is linked as both a cause and consequence of a number of psychological disorders such as anxiety, poor self-esteem, poor body image and eating disorders. That’s why we all need to take steps to address this and take more control over our future health outcomes.
